One great thing about Magic: The Gathering is that you can have decks that have very different strategies to win. For example, you have control, aggro, midrange, and combo. Within these types you can have sub types. You can usually find a deck of each of the types mentioned above at the top of a format’s metagame., but which one is the best? Pro’s spend weeks before tournaments to try and figure this out. For starters, I will begin to give you a deck of each type of skill. They are listed below. These are the top tier decks to play
Aggro
B/R, Mono-Red Aggro
Control
U/W, Esper Control
Midrange
B/U Midrange
Combo
Mono-Blue Reservoir, B/G Constrictor, W/U GPG
Some decks though have bad match-ups against other decks. I would play either aggro or control, because they mostly have good match-ups against other decks. The top 2 decks would probably be B/R aggro and W/U Control, but just because you see these at the top doesn’t mean you should just jump in. Make sure you check out our deck techs on the Modern MTG website for how to play each deck and how to tune your deck the right way. Making a good sideboard for your post-board games is very impoatant to tune your deck for other match-ups. Have fun and good games!
